Agritourism
Information in New Extension Publication
By Rob Holland
July 2000
Considering
an Agritainment Enterprise in Tennessee? is the name
of a recently released publication by The University of Tennessee
Agricultural Extension Service.
Agritainment
(agritourism and entertainment farming enterprises) has its
roots in the late 1800s when families visited farm relatives
to escape from the citys summer heat. But tourism and
entertainment-related activities are relatively new farm-diversification
enterprises in Tennessee.
The estimated
$7.7 billion spent each year by more than 40 million visitors
to the state makes agritourism attractive. Tennessee has a
broad mix of agricultural production. Tennessee farmers raise
cotton, soybeans, corn, tobacco, dairy cows, beef animals,
horses, sheep, vegetables, speciality crops and forestry.
Released
by Extensions Agricultural Development Center, the new
publication (PB 1648) will assist farmers and agri-entrepreneurs
who are considering an agritainment enterprise.
The publication
provides general considerations of the agritainment industry,
marketing, financial and general management issues.
Publications
